Recognized for pioneering grid-forming long-duration energy storage with vanadium flow batteries
Shenzhen, China — October 29, 2025 — RKP International has been selected as one of the Top 50 global finalists in Tencent’s CarbonX Program 2.0, a landmark initiative accelerating breakthrough climate technologies for a net-zero future.
Chosen from more than 660 applicants across 54 countries and regions, RKP International stands out as one of only eight teams recognized under the Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) track.
Aligned with Tencent’s mission of Tech for Good, the CarbonX Program supports innovation in four key areas — carbon dioxide removal, CCUS for steel, carbon utilization, and long-duration energy storage — offering up to RMB 200 million (US$28 million) in catalytic funding, technical support, and global piloting opportunities.
RKP International’s shortlisted project, “Grid-Forming Long-Duration Energy Storage with Vanadium Flow Battery for Himandhoo Island,” aims to achieve over 95% renewable energy supply and up to 18 hours of diesel-free operation daily on Himandhoo Island in the Maldives.
Leveraging its patented vanadium flow battery (VFB) technology, RKP’s system delivers:
- 25+ years of lifespan and 20,000+ cycles with less than 1% annual degradation

- Non-flammable, fully recyclable materials ensuring safety and sustainability

- Containerized, pre-filled electrolyte modules for easy plug-and-play deployment

- Grid-forming capability, enabling stable operation of 100% renewable microgrids

With over 3.5 GWh of vanadium flow battery systems already deployed globally, RKP continues to bridge the gap between research and industrial deployment, delivering cost-competitive, long-duration energy storage solutions for utilities and communities worldwide.
