Dalian Rongke Power Achieves Groundbreaking Milestone in Energy Storage Technology
Dalian Rongke Power (RKP) is proud to announce a significant achievement in energy storage technology. From June 17-18, the Dalian Hengliu Energy Storage Power Station, a national demonstration project developed by RKP, successfully conducted the world’s first black start test of a large-scale thermal power unit using RKP’s advanced vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) technology.
This historic test was carried out in collaboration with State Grid Liaoning Electric Power Supply Co., Ltd. and Huaneng Power International Dalian Power Plant. Nearly 170 testing personnel diligently executed the plan, ensuring the stability of frequency and voltage throughout the operation. Key processes included the self-start of the energy storage station, the closing impact of six transformers at the power plant, and the load start of 40 auxiliary machines, all of which demonstrated the reliability and efficacy of VRFB technology in supporting critical power systems.
Dalian Hengliu Energy Storage Power Station, the world’s first 100MW/400MWh VRFB storage station, demonstrated its vital role in restoring power to large thermal units. This groundbreaking test verifies the feasibility of using new energy storage to start large-capacity thermal power units through the main grid, significantly enhancing the resilience of urban power grids under extreme conditions.
The success of this test underscores RKP’s leadership role in the energy storage industry and the importance of VRFB technology as a foundational component in new power systems. This achievement provides a model for the large-scale integration and utilization of VRFB storage, supporting the construction of advanced and secure power systems.
